How to Request Your USDOT PIN

Follow these steps to request your USDOT PIN:

Step 1: Visit the FMCSA Website

  • Enter your USDOT number.

Step 2: Access the MCS-150 Form

  • Click on the MCS-150 form link.

Step 3: Request Your USDOT PIN

  • Click the link to request your USDOT PIN.

Step 4: Fill Out the Request Form

  • Complete the form by choosing whether you want a new or existing USDOT PIN.

  • Submit your request.

Step 5: Enter the Access Code

  • Check your email for the special access code sent by the DOT.

  • Enter the code in the required field.

Step 6: Receive Your USDOT PIN

  • Your USDOT PIN will be sent to your email within approximately 3 minutes.

Note: If you choose the mail option, you will receive a letter with your PIN in about 7- 10 business days.

  • A USDOT PIN (Personal Identification Number) is an eight-character alphanumeric code crucial for identifying a motor carrier in interactions with regulatory bodies such as the FMCSA or the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT).

You’ll need your USDOT PIN if you want to do things like:

  • Review your complete FMCSA CSA data

  • Respond to a USDOT audit request

  • Update your MCS 150 (FMCSA biennial updates like company name, address, phone number, etc.)

  • Log into your FMCSA Portal for the first time

What If I Lost It?

If you’ve lost or misplaced your FMCSA PIN, there is no need to worry!

You can request a new one in 2 different ways:

  1. Call the FMCSA at 1-800-777-3947 and request a new PIN be sent to you.

  2. Simply go to the FMCSA’s USDOT PIN Request form to request that a new PIN be sent to you.
