Keeping your Cargo Classification up to date with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is essential for compliance. This step-by-step guide will walk you through updating your classification information.


Step-by-Step Guide to Updating Your Cargo Classification

Step 1: Access the Safer Web Company Snapshot

Step 2: Enter Your USDOT or MC Number

  • Enter your company’s USDOT number or MC number to access your profile.

Step 3: Locate the MCS-150 Form

  • After entering your USDOT or MC number, your page will display your company information.

  • Find and click on MCS-150.

Step 4: Select Update Option

  • Choose “I need to update my USDOT number registration information (MCS-150)”

  • Then click “Continue”.

Step 5: File Electronically

  • Select “File Electronically.” You’ll be prompted to enter your USDOT PIN to proceed.

Step 6: Continue to Update

  • On the next page, click “Continue” to proceed with the update.

Step 7: Update Operation Type

  • Choose the appropriate operation type for your business:

    • Auto Hauling – Select Motor Vehicles

    • Towing – Select Towing / Drive Away

Step 8: Save Your Changes

  • Once you have updated your information, click “Save” to finalize the update.
