Introduction
If your broker operating authority (MC number) is no longer active, you’ll need to reinstate it before you can legally broker vehicle shipments again.
This article explains how to reinstate broker authority through the FMCSA, including what to check first, which forms may be required, and what to do if your authority was fully dismissed.
Before You Start
Broker authority reinstatement is handled directly through the FMCSA. Super Dispatch cannot reinstate authority on your behalf.
Step 1: Confirm Your USDOT Status
Start by confirming that your USDOT record is active and accurate.
- Your USDOT status must not be listed as Inactive or Out of Service
- Your company name, address, and contact details must be current
Step 2: Request Your USDOT PIN (If Needed)
You’ll need your USDOT PIN to make updates or submit reinstatement requests. If you don’t have it, you must request one by mail.
- Go to the FMCSA PIN request page
- Select Yes and enter your verification details
- Wait for your PIN to be mailed to the address on file
Step 3: Reinstate Your Broker Authority
Once you have your USDOT PIN, you can request reinstatement of your broker operating authority online.
- Visit the FMCSA Registration Portal
- Select “Requesting that my Operating Authority (MC number) be reinstated”
- Complete and submit the request using your USDOT PIN
If Your Authority Was Fully Dismissed
If your broker authority was permanently dismissed, reinstatement is not possible. In this case, you must apply for new operating authority.
This requires:
- Updating your USDOT record to include Authorized for Hire
- Applying for new broker authority
- Filing required insurance electronically
- Filing a BOC-3 through a process agent
What Happens Next
After your broker authority is reinstated or reissued:
- Your MC number status will update in FMCSA systems
- Insurance and BOC-3 filings must be active
- You may need to wait for FMCSA processing to complete before full access is restored
