Introduction
Carrier TMS lets you import loads quickly using PDF dispatch sheets and CSV files. The most common way to start an import is by clicking the Import Load button at the top of Carrier TMS. This opens your computer’s file picker (Finder on Mac or File Explorer on Windows), so you can select the file you want to upload.
Carrier TMS also supports drag-and-drop importing, which lets you drop files directly into the Loads screen for faster uploads.
This article covers the supported file types, the most common dispatch sheet formats that import best, and how to upload files using both methods.
Supported File Types
Carrier TMS supports two primary file formats for importing loads. Before uploading, make sure your file is complete, readable, and formatted correctly.
| File Type | Best For | What to Check Before Uploading |
|---|---|---|
| CSV | Bulk load creation (multiple loads at once) | Use the Carrier TMS CSV template, keep column headers unchanged, and confirm each row represents one load. |
| PDF dispatch sheet | Single-load or multi-load dispatch sheets | Make sure the PDF is clear and readable (print-to-PDF works best). Avoid scans/screenshots when possible. |
Supported PDF Dispatch Sheet Types
Carrier TMS can import many commonly used dispatch sheet formats. In general, dispatch sheets work best when they are printed/exported as a PDF and include clear pickup, delivery, vehicle, and payment details.
Dispatch Sheets That Commonly Import Well
Below is a reference list of dispatch sheet sources that commonly import well when saved as a printed PDF. (If your dispatch sheet isn’t listed, it may still work as long as it’s consistently formatted and clearly readable.)

Import Loads Using the Import Load Button (CSV & PDF)
The Import Load button is the standard way to upload files into Carrier TMS. It’s located at the top of the Loads page, next to the Create Load button.
Before uploading, make sure you’ve already downloaded and reviewed your file to confirm it’s complete and formatted correctly.
- On Mac, clicking Import Load opens Finder
- On Windows, clicking Import Load opens File Explorer
Upload Your CSV or PDF
Once your file is ready:
- Open the Loads tab in Carrier TMS.
- Click Import Load at the top of the page.
- Select your CSV or PDF file from Finder or File Explorer.
Download the CSV Import Template
If you’re importing loads using a CSV file, download and use the official Carrier TMS CSV template. This ensures your data maps correctly during import.
Import Loads by Drag-and-Drop (CSV & PDF)
Drag-and-drop importing is the fastest way to upload files if you already have a PDF or CSV available on your computer. This method works for both PDF dispatch sheets and CSV files.
Step 1: Open the Loads Tab
Open the Loads tab in Carrier TMS so the system is ready to accept your file.
- Select Loads from the left-hand navigation menu.
Step 2: Drag and Drop the File
Drag a PDF or CSV file from your computer (Desktop, Finder on Mac, or File Explorer on Windows) and drop it anywhere inside the Carrier TMS window.
An on-screen indicator appears while the file uploads and is processed.
What Happens After the Import
Once a CSV or PDF file is processed:
- Each valid row or section is converted into a load
- Loads appear in your Carrier TMS dashboard
- You can review, edit, and assign loads as needed
