Phone Verification (Required for All Carriers)
All carriers must complete phone verification as part of the verification process, regardless of carrier type or verification status.
Phone verification confirms your identity and is required before a carrier verification request can be submitted or approved.
Where Phone Verification Appears
Phone verification is completed from the Carrier Info tab inside your Carrier Profile.
- A βTo Doβ badge appears on the Carrier Info tab when phone verification is required
- A Verify Phone Now button is displayed until verification is completed
- A Safer FMCSA Record block is visible on the Carrier Info tab
Starting Phone Verification
When the carrier clicks Verify Phone Now, the Phone Verification page opens.
The phone number shown is pulled from FMCSA or business records.
- The carrier can choose how to receive the verification code:
- Phone call
- Text message (SMS)
On each screen, the carrier can switch between call and text if needed.
Verification Code Rules
- If the code is not received, it can be resent after 60 seconds
- The verification code is valid for 10 minutes
- The carrier has 3 attempts per hour to enter the code
If There Is an Issue Verifying the Phone Number
If FMCSA or business records do not contain a phone number, the carrier will see a warning screen prompting them to update their information before continuing.
If an incorrect verification code is entered, an error message is displayed.
If the verification code expires or there is a delivery issue, the carrier will see an error explaining the issue and how to retry.
After Phone Verification Is Completed
Once the phone number is successfully verified:
- The Verify Phone Now button is removed
- A verification icon appears next to the phone number
- The phone number does not need to be verified again unless it is changed
Phone Verification and Becoming a Verified Carrier
If the carrier has not yet submitted a verification request, phone verification appears as a required step when clicking Become Verified Carrier.
Phone verification must be completed before the verification request can be sent.
If the phone number was already verified, this step appears as completed when the carrier begins the verification process.
