Introduction
Unassigning a load removes the driver from it, so the load goes back to your unassigned loads and you can assign it later. If you already know who should take the load instead, use Reassign so it moves straight to the new driver. This article explains how to unassign a load in Carrier TMS.
Note: Only someone on your team with the right permissions can unassign a load. Super Dispatch Support can't unassign, reassign, or delete loads for you.
How to Unassign a Load
Step 1: Find the Load
- Click Loads in the left-hand menu and open the Assigned or Picked Up tab.
Step 2: Unassign the Driver
- On the load card, click the three-dot (⋯) menu next to Reassign and Edit, then select Unassign.
- Confirm when prompted.
Step 3: Check the Load
- The load moves back to the New tab, where you can assign it to another driver.
- The driver can no longer see the load in the Driver App.
Important: You can unassign a load that's Assigned or Picked Up. If the vehicle is already on the truck, talk to the driver first so they know they no longer have the load.
Other Ways a Load Gets Unassigned
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Loads in a trip | On the Trips page, open the trip and use the three-dot menu to reassign or unassign the driver. |
| Vehicle loads (EDI) | On the Loads tab, use the three-dot menu and select Unassign. The VINs go back to the Vehicles tab. This only works before pickup. |
| Deleting a driver | If you delete a driver from your company, all loads assigned to them are unassigned. |
| Delivered to a terminal | When a load in a trip is delivered to a terminal, it's unassigned from the current driver automatically. |
Tip: If a driver can't see a load or its attachments in the Driver App, unassigning and reassigning the load often refreshes it.
