Introduction
In Shipper TMS, you can check any carrier's Verified Carrier status before you dispatch a load. This article shows how to find a carrier, review their FMCSA authority and compliance documents, and use Internal Records to track how your company classifies them.
Important: Always confirm a carrier's authority before you assign them a load. We don't recommend dispatching
to carriers without active FMCSA authority.
How to Check a Carrier's Verified Status
Step 1: Open Manage Carriers
- In Shipper TMS, click Manage Carriers in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Find the Carrier
- Each carrier in the list shows its statuses, such as Approved, Preferred, Certificate Holder, Insurance Expired, Blocklisted, or Internal.
- To find a specific carrier, search by name or USDOT number at the top of the page, then click the carrier's name to open their profile.
Step 3: Review the Compliance Assessment
On the carrier's profile, check the verification badge next to their name and the Compliance Assessment section.
- A green checkmark next to Authority means the carrier's USDOT number is active and authorized to haul cargo in the FMCSA database.
- A yellow warning means the carrier is not authorized.
- Click View on Motus next to the FMCSA Snapshot to see the carrier's full FMCSA record.
- You can also open the carrier's USDOT certificate, W-9, and cargo insurance from this section.
Step 4: Update Internal Records
Use Internal Records to track how your company classifies the carrier:
- Set the Carrier Status, such as Approved, and check Preferred if needed.
- Check Certificate Holder to upload and store the carrier's insurance for your records.
- Upload any other files under Internal Attachments.
Once saved, the carrier's status shows at the top of their profile.
