Introduction
Some vehicles can't make the whole trip from pickup to delivery with the same driver. A terminal is a drop-off location where one driver leaves a vehicle and another driver picks it up for the next leg. The Terminals feature in Carrier TMS helps dispatchers track vehicles at terminals and split loads into legs.
How to Create a Terminal
Step 1: Open Settings
- In Carrier TMS, click your company name in the lower-left corner.
- Select Settings.
Step 2: Open Terminals
- In the Settings menu, click Terminals, between General and Driver App.
Step 3: Add a New Terminal
- Click Add Terminal in the upper-right corner.
- In the New Terminal panel, enter the Terminal Name, Street, City, State, Zip, Contact Name, and Phone Number. All fields are required.
Step 4: Save the Terminal
- Click Save.
The terminal is now available for your loads. You can edit or delete it at any time from the Terminals page.
How to Add a Terminal Drop-Off to a Load
Step 1: Find the Load
- On the Loads page, find the load you want to add a terminal to.
Step 2: Select Add Terminal
- Click Options on the load.
- Click Add Terminal.
Step 3: Choose the Terminal
- In the Add Terminal window, select one of your saved terminals and click Add.
Step 4: Check the Load
- The terminal now appears as a stop between pickup and delivery on the load.
- You can add as many terminal stops as you need.
How to Remove a Terminal Drop-Off
Step 1: Find the Load
- On the Loads page, find the load you want to remove the terminal from.
Step 2: Select Remove Terminal
- Click Options on the load.
- Click Remove Terminal.
Important:
- Remove terminals in reverse order. For example, if the load goes Terminal 1 → Terminal 2 → Delivery, remove Terminal 2 before Terminal 1.
- You can't remove a terminal once the vehicle has been delivered.
- You can't add the same terminal to a load twice.
How to See Vehicles at Terminals
Step 1: Open the In Terminal Tab
- On the Loads page, click the In Terminal tab to see vehicles that are at a terminal.
Step 2: View Terminal Details
- Click the Load ID to see the terminal location and activity.
Step 3: Filter by Terminal
- Use the Terminals filter at the top of the Loads page. Click All Terminals and choose the terminal you want to see.
Inspections at Terminal Drop-Offs
- Do a thorough pickup inspection. Drivers should mark all damage and take photos of the vehicle at pickup.
- Later photos count as delivery photos. Any damage photos or markings added after pickup appear as Delivery photos.
Note: We don't recommend adding more damage photos or markings after the vehicle is dropped at the terminal.
What the Driver Needs to Know
- Drop-off location: For the driver on the first leg, the terminal appears as the delivery location.
- Inspection: The pickup inspection must be thorough, because no extra inspection or BOL is created at the terminal.
- No customer signature: The driver doesn't need to collect a customer signature at a terminal drop-off.
